Mixed Teams Represent area well at Southern Sectional Champiosnhips

Several teams from the Ashland area represented Kentucky at the Southern USTA Mixed Doubled Championships held in New Orleans, Louisiana October 19-21, 2007.

The 8.0 Senior Team Captained by Ken Wells was repeat finalist losing a close match to Georgia in the finals 2-1. This same team was national runner-up in the Easter Regional Championship last November in Puerto Rico. Team members are Randy Chapman, Ken Wells, Jill Knight, Sandy and Rodney Windgardner, David Rose, Janet Disbennet, Becky Long and Dan Campbell. Way to go guys!

A 7.0 Senior team from Portsmouth also competed very well and finished 2-2 in their division. Team members are Gordie and Sandy Blanton, Jack England, Kathy Bloomer, Charlie and Linda Lane, Wes and Marsha Bussey, Cara Dobbins, Ray Lucas, Karen Smalley and Sharron Adkins. The team was captained by Gordie Blanton.


Tom Collins from Ashland was on a winning 9.0 Team from Paducah. They advance to the Eastern Region Championship in Orlando the middle of November!

USTA League Tennis Mixed Doubles is similar to USTA League Tennis in that it offers competitive league tennis play at the local and sectional level, culminating in a Regional Championship consisting of top teams from New England, Midwest, Southern, Florida, and Caribbean Sections. The USTA League Tennis Mixed Doubles program allows players of different NTRP levels to play together, encouraging participants to play with their friends, family and co-workers.

Players without an NTRP rating are permitted to self rate. The levels offered include adult 2.5 to 5.0 - with combined partnerships of levels up to 10.0 and senior 5.0 - 9.0.

The program is open to all players 19 years of age and over. There are currently over 2,500 players participating in the USTA League Tennis Mixed Doubles program in Kentucky. Contact your Local League Coordinator for more information! League season runs June thru August!
